It's official, Virgin Mobile will soon be offering the iPhone 4 and 4S models...
As soon as the end of this month on June 29, 2012! And they have a pretty cool plan for those who choose to buy one of the hottest pieces of technology on a pre-paid plan! But do not think for one second there isn't some sort of "catch" to this. In the fine print that is not a part of the picture below, states how many minutes and data you will be offered as a pre-paid, iPhone wielding, Virgin Mobile customer! Details below...
Minutes and Data Usage
Virgin Mobile's $30/month advertised plan comes with 300 minutes and 2.5GB of data, after you pay $650 for the iPhone 4S or $550 for the iPhone 4 model! Once you reach the 2.5gigs, they will slow your data down (throttling) and you have to wait until your next cycle to refresh the data and minutes. You can also go with a higher tiered minutes and data plan. Also, if you are someone who uses a lot of Wi-Fi connections (work from home, work has Wi-Fi, Internet café junkie) then the data shouldn't be an issue, just the minutes!
One way to save some money is to use automatic monthly payments through a debit card, credit card or PayPal. If you do this, Virgin Mobile will give you a $5 monthly discount on your account; a yearly savings of $60.
Cricket is offering the iPhone 4 and 4S too!
At the end of last month, Cricket announced they will be offering the iPhone 4 and 4S models too! So the Pre-Paid iPhone showdown has begun. People looking to save some money will appreciate Cricket's lower price for the phones ($150 less for each model than what Virgin is offering), but Virgin has the better coverage... So, it's a mini-tossup as to which service provider will suit your needs if you decide to go Pre-Paid iPhone.
The NY Times did a quick comparison of the two wireless carriers' phone price, monthly and yearly costs, data and service coverage. In the long run, they say Cricket is the choice for saving money throughout the year; the $150 savings for the price of the phone trumps the monthly savings for plans from Virgin. BUT you have better coverage from Virgin! So, like we said, it's a toss-up and personal preference.
Don't forget! Sell your old electronics at Tech Twurl...(especially if you go with the Pre-Paid iPhones. You will need the extra funds to offset those phone prices!)
